Domenech sues French Football Federation over dismissal

PARIS - Raymond Domenech is seeking 2.9 million euros in compensation from the French Football Federation (FFF) following his dismissal as France coach by the FFF, his lawyer confirmed.

Jean-Yves Connesson told L’Equipe newspaper Wednesday that the 58-year-old’s sacking was against French labour law and that his client wanted his rights respected.

Domenech was fired for professional misconduct after France were eliminated from the World Cup in the first round following a strike by the players in support of striker Nicolas Anelka.

The Chelsea player was ejected from the squad by Domenech after he insulted the coach.

According to the FFF, Domenech was removed from his post for not informing federation officials of Anelka’s behaviour. He was also criticised for his actions during the players’ strike and for not shaking South African coach Carlos Alberto Parreira’s hand after Les Bleus lost 2-1 to host nation South Africa in their final group game.

Domenech’s case will he heard by an industrial tribunal.
