ODI call-up not precursor to Ashes berth: Ferguson

SYDNEY - Callum Ferguson, who replaced injured Shaun Marsh in Australia’s limited overs squad, doesn’t consider his ODI call-up a precursor to an Ashes berth.

Downplaying the significance of his one-day selection, Ferguson said: “It’s a different format altogether.”

“One-day cricket is completely different from Test cricket but it’s another chance to represent the country and an opportunity I’m extremely proud of.

“… Any runs are always good, they help strengthen your cause no matter where you are trying to get to, but it really is a completely different format,” The Sydney Morning herald quoted Ferguson, as saying.

Ferguson averaged over 46 in 25 one-dayers for Australia until October last year, when he underwent a knee reconstruction.

“It has been a while. It (the injury) gave me a chance to assess where I was at with my career, it was a long time on the sidelines but it gave me a chance to look at my game and see where I could improve,” he said.

“I’m hoping throughout that period I was able to recognise a few of my weaknesses and work on them,” Ferguson said.

“The 25 games I played for Australia were the time of my life and it was something I was desperately keen to get back to,” he added. (ANI)
