Indian shooters bag first medal for India at Asian Games

GUANGZHOU - India kicked off its 16th Asian Games campaign with a silver medal in the 10m air rifle team event on the opening day of the shooting competition here on Saturday.

The team of Gagan Narang, Abhinav Bindra and Sanjeev Rajput, who had done the country proud in the recently held XIXth Commonwealth Games, clinched the medal as India finished second to China in the team event.

The Indian women’s team finished seventh in the 10 metre air rifle event, while the men’s team finished fifth in the 50 metre pistol event earlier today.

Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal also registered convincing victory in the opening match today defeating Indonesia’s Adriyanti Firdasari 21-16 21-17 in straight sets. (ANI)
