Greatbatch hails McCullum for his match saving double century against India

HYDERABAD - New Zealand coach Mark Greatbatch has hailed opening batsman Brendon McCullum for his double century in the Hyderabad Test, which helped the visitors ensure a second successive draw against the world’s No.1 ranked Test team, India.

McCullum, who opened only for the second time in his Test career, scored a brilliant 225 to become only the second New Zealander to post a double ton on Indian soil, after Bert Sutcliffe’s 230 not out in New Delhi in 1955

“I think it’s a real credit to him, he’s a great competitor. Nine hours of batting in the second innings in India, not too many guys do that,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Greatbatch, as saying.

The 29-year-old was named Man of the Match for his match saving innings.

The draw has given the Black Caps a huge boost, and comes after the humiliating ODI series loss against Bangladesh.

The two teams now head to Nagpur for the third and final Test starting on Saturday. (ANI)
