MELBOURNE - Spin legend Shane Warne has criticized the Australian selectors for dropping Nathan Hauritz from the 13-man Ashes squad for the Gabba Test.

Hauritz was left out of the Australian team with Tasmania’s Xavier Doherty and leg-spinning all-rounder Steve Smith named in the squad instead.

Warne used his favourite medium, Twitter, to question the decision to drop Hauritz.

“Re test squad I think it’s very very harsh on Hauritz, he deserved first crack at Poms. Nothing against X (Doherty) or Smith I wish them luck,” Warne tweeted.

“Ps what happens if smith or X don’t do well back to Hauritz?? That seems dumb to me … Got it wrong way around the selectors!”

Warne has long been a vocal supporter of Hauritz, who today became the seventh Australia spinner to be dropped since Warne retired in 2007, FOX Sports reports.

Earlier, Warne had asked skipper Ricky Ponting to be more flexible in field arrangements for Hauritz.

Warne, who had a problem with Hauritz’s field arrangements in India, till now has not let Ponting get away with saying it was Hauritz who set them.

He had suggested that the bowler’s planning in concert with Ponting needed to become more flexible. (ANI)
