Captain Ponting under biggest amount of pressure, says Pietersen ahead of Ashes

BRISBANE - In the first definitive sledge launched against Australia by a cautious England side since its arrival three weeks ago, middle order batsman Kevin Pietersen has taken aim at captain Ricky Ponting’s aggressive approach.
Ponting has made a point of targeting Pietersen and rival skipper Andrew Strauss at every chance since August, but Pietersen has hit back.
”Why would anyone come out and say, ‘We’re going to win 5-0′ or ‘We’re going to target him’ unless you are Glenn McGrath or Shane Warne?”
The News Of The World quoted Pietersen as saying: ”If you’re talking too much in the media, you know cracks are appearing. We’ll be battling to keep them on the back foot.”
”This is the first opportunity an English team has had to come here when quite a few Australians are under pressure, and the captain is under the biggest amount of pressure,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Pietersen, as saying.
Ponting is under pressure to avoid a third losing Ashes series, and must also prove he is still capable of dealing with the short ball following a year of routinely being caught out off the pull shot. (ANI)
