Ferrari backs FIA decision to scrap controversial F1 ‘team orders’ rule

LONDON - Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has welcomed the lifting of the ban on team orders in Formula One as the end of a “pointless hypocrisy”.
Ferrari was fined 63,000 pounds after Felipe Massa was told to move aside and let team-mate Fernando Alonso win the German Grand Prix in July.
They were not penalized further because previous incidents had gone unpunished.
The sport’s governing body, the FIA, has deleted the rule forbidding team orders at a meeting on Friday.
“Finally, we have said goodbye to this pointless hypocrisy. For us, F1 has always been a team sport. It should be treated as such,” The Daily Mail quoted Domenicali, as saying.
The FIA has recognized that team orders have always been part of the sport, but implied that blatant action next season could still be punished. (ANI)
