SYDNEY - Australian captain Ricky Ponting will undergo surgery on his fractured finger, which forced him to sit out of the fifth and final Test of the Ashes series.

Ponting had fractured the little finger in his left hand while attempting to claim an edge at slip off Jonathan Trott on day three of the third-Test at Perth’s WACA Ground.

According to Sport24, the 36-year-old will have an operation on Tuesday, and is expected to be fit for the 50-over World Cup in the Indian subcontinent starting February.

“There’s no problem with the World Cup, it’s just been decided that surgery is the way to go,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said. (ANI)
