MELBOURNE - Former West Indies captain Richie Richardson has been appointed as the new manager of the national team.
The 49-year-old has been appointed for a two-year term and will take over immediately in preparation for the side’s tour to Sri Lanka.
“I feel tremendously honoured to be once again asked to serve West Indies cricket. I believe that it is critical for me to lend support to the efforts to re-develop the sport in the region,” the Herald Sun quoted Richardson, as saying.
“As a former player and captain I gave my all for West Indies cricket on the field. We are at the cusp of a new era and it is now time for me to contribute off the field and aid in the building and resurgence of West Indies cricket,” he added.
Richardson, who played 86 Test matches and 224 ODIs, scoring a total of 21 centuries, replaces Joel Garner, who had held the position on an interim basis. (ANI)
