Zaheer snaps 250 wickets, Pathan hits maiden 50 against Proteas (Match highlights)

CAPE TOWN - The explosive Yusuf Pathan struck his maiden fifty against South Africa while Zaheer Khan became only the fifth Indian bowler to take 250 wickets in One-day Internationals in the team’s victory over the Proteas here at the Newlands Stadium.

Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan were involved in a sixth-wicket stand of 75 - India’s highest against South Africa in South Africa, eclipsing the 74 (unbroken) between Pravin Amre and Vijay Yadav at East London Dec 19, 1992.
Harbhajan Singh’s excellent 23 not out is his highest against South Africa in South Africa - his second best against South Africa, next only to his unbeaten 37 at Hyderabad Nov 16, 2005.
On his Limited-overs international debut, Faf du Plessis, with his magnificent 60 off 78, has top-scored for South Africa.
Plessis’ brilliant knock is the third best by a South African on his ODI debut. Colin Ingram had made 124 against Zimbabwe at Bloemfontein Oct 15, 2010, and Shaun Pollock 66 not out against England at Cape Town Jan 9, 1996.
Gulam Bodi is the only other South African to record a fifty on debut - 51 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo Aug 22, 2007.
South Africa have lost for the first time at Newlands, Cape town, to India, having won the previous two.
Apart from India, South Africa have lost two games to Australia and one to West Indies out of 29 played at this venue.
Before their defeat to India, South Africa had won ten games in a row at Newlands.
Munaf Patel has registered his best performance in a series. He has already captured eight wickets (ave.13.37) in three games in the current series.
Zaheer Khan’s figures of three for 43 are his second best at Newlands, Cape Town, in ODIs. His best figures are 3 for 42 against South Africa Nov 26, 2006.
Zaheer became the fifth Indian bowler to complete 250 wickets in ODIs at an average of 29.51 in 180 matches. Only Anil Kumble (337), Javagal Srinath (315), Ajit Agarkar (288) and Kapil Dev (253) have claimed more wickets than Zaheer.
Yusuf Pathan has been adjudged the Man of the Match for the second time in ODIs - his first against South Africa. This is his first Man of the Match award in ODIs.
Pathan’s excellent innings of 59 off 50 balls is his highest in South Africa.
Pathan’s match-winning half-century is also his first against South Africa - his third in ODIs.
Pathan has posted two consecutive innings of fifty-plus in ODIs for the first time. He had posted a career-best 123 not out against New Zealand at Bangalore Dec 7, 2010, in his previous outing.
Plessis and Duminy were involved in a fifth-wicket stand of 110 - a record for South Africa against India, bettering the 107 between Mark Boucher and Neil McKenzie at Dhaka Apr 18, 2003.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma put on 52 for the second wicket - India’s highest at Cape Town.
Morne Morkel (3/28) has produced his best bowling figures against India, bettering the 2 for 12 at Durban Jan 12, 2011.
For the first time in ODIs against South Africa in South Africa, India have registered two ODI wins in succession - by one run at Johannesburg Jan 15 and by two wickets at Cape Town Tuesday.
India’s two-wicket win is their narrowest victory margin in terms of wickets, betteering the three-wicket win at Kolkata Nov 10, 1991 and Kochi Mar 9, 2000.
