INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA wants to give schools an economic break.

College sports’ largest governing body has announced it will suspend membership dues for the next school year. It also hopes to save about $500,000 by holding most of its future committee meetings in Indianapolis. Some meetings are currently held in Indy, but about half of the meetings are held in other parts of the nation.

Schools normally pay $900 to $1,800 in annual dues. The expense is determined by which division the school competes in. The decision covers schools in all three divisions, and the NCAA estimates the suspension will keep $1.3 million in the schools’ coffers.
