Gazza’s marriage cost him 200,000 pounds a day

LONDON - If reports are to be believed, retired English footballer Paul Gascoigne’s marriage cost him a whopping 200,000 pounds a day.

He is said to have engaged lawyers to compile a list of all the cash she has given to his ex-wife Sheryl, so that he may fight her plea for a further 100,000 pounds.

The two of them lived together as husband and wife for just three months.

Lawyers representing Gazza, as the footballer is famously known, reckon that he has paid Sheryl around 17.5 million pounds since their divorce in 1998.

However, Sheryl has asked Gazza to increase maintenance payments for their 12-year-old son Regan to 2,000 pounds a month.

Her action came after Gazza missed a 500-pound handout while in rehab.

Gazza has now called in the lawyers, dubbing the money given to Sheryl as “The Gravy Train”.

His lawyers think that a courtroom battle could lead to the legendary footballer paying less.

While Gazza is living in a modest rented two-bedroom flat in Newcastle, Sheryl lives in a 1.6million-pound mansion in Hertfordshire that he gave her as part of their divorce settlement.

Sheryl, 43, also rents out a five-bedroom holiday home in Loch Lomond, Scotland, which Gazza gave her.

Gazza paid maintenance for Sheryl’s two children Bianca and Mason, even though they are not his, and four years ago he gave her an extra 250,000 pounds.

The sports star even bought her a series of luxury cars, even though he does not own one himself.

Gazza’s best pal Jimmy “Five Bellies” Gardner has revealed that the football ace has done a lot for Sheryl.

“When they met she had nothing. Now she’s a millionaire. It’s all down to Paul and his kind heart. She knew how generous he was. He’s even given away 1million pounds to the needy during his career. But he’s realised now that the buck really has to stop here,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

Sheryl’s representatives refused to comment on the cash row. (ANI)
