Browns OG Hadnot injured in practice
BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns guard Rex Hadnot was carted off the practice field Thursday after suffering a possible serious injury to his left knee.
Hadnot, who started 15 games for the Browns last season, got hurt while pass blocking during team drills. The 6-foot-2, 320-pounder was engaged with defensive lineman Louis Leonard when rookie linebacker David Veikune got pushed into the outside of Hadnot’s left knee.
Hadnot crumpled to the grass in obvious pain as team medical personnel rushed to assist him.
Many of Hadnot’s teammates offered him their best wishes as he was driven away. He briefly put his hands over his face as he left the field.
The Browns had no immediate word on his condition.
Hadnot, who played four seasons in Miami before signing as a free agent with Cleveland last year, was competing with veteran Eric Steinbach for the starting left guard job. Regardless of the competition, Steinbach hated to see a teammate get hurt.
“When one guy goes down, we are all affected by it,” he said. “It’s a very sobering moment. Each day it can happen to anyone, but especially at your position, you feel the loss. We’re going to hope and pray it’s not a major one.”
Note: The Browns signed free agent defensive back Brandon Anderson. The team also waived rookie defensive back Don Carey.
