Ravens trade Martin to Packers for Moll

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens cut their roster down to the league limit of 53 players, and also traded defensive back Derrick Martin to the Green Bay Packers for offensive lineman Tony Moll.

The Ravens also informed kicker Steve Hauschka that he’s the new starting kicker as he replaces Matt Stover.

Moll has started 11 games at right guard and seven games at right tackle. His addition should solidify the team’s depth on the offensive line.

“It’s a new beginning, a good opportunity, ” Martin said in a telephone interview. “It’s going to be fun. Green Bay runs a similar defense with that 3-4, so I should fit in. I guess Green Bay liked what they saw from me out there.

“I’m going to play safety, cornerback and special teams, like I did here. I’m excited about the opportunity. I had a blast in Baltimore while it lasted, but it’s time to move on.”

The Ravens also placed fifth-round pick Jason Phillips, a linebacker from Texas Christian, on injured reserve. Phillips underwent surgery on his lateral meniscus prior to the NFL draft.

The team brokered an injury settlement with undrafted rookie defensive lineman Will Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Ravens also cut: wide receivers Yamon Figurs, Jayson Foster, Ernie Wheelwright, Justin Harper and Eron Riley, fullback Jason Cook, sixth-round running back Cedric Peerman, cornerback Evan Oglesby, offensive tackles Joe Reitz and Stefan Rodgers, tight ends Davon Drew and Isaac Smolko, offensive guards Bryan Mattison and Tre Stallings, kicker Graham Gano, linebackers Tony Fein and William VanDeSteeg, safety K.J. Gerard, center Robbie Felix and defensive tackle Nader Abdallah.
