KOLKATA - After a string of poor shows, East Bengal Friday decided to sack three of their foreign footballers with immediate effect though coach Subhas Bhowmick will continue.

Briefing mediapersons after the club’s core committee meeting, football secretary Santosh Bhattacharya said Czech Republic medio Jan Berger, Brazilian forward Edmilson Marques and Argentinian striker Sebastian Omar were being released.

Edmilson got the boot on disciplinary grounds for questioning Bhowmick’s authority during a practice session in the run-up to the Durand Cup and for charging at him.

“As far as Sebastian and Berger are concerned, we are extremely unhappy with their performance. We have to look for new foreigners,” he said.

But the club has decided to continue with Lebanese central defender Ramez dayoub on a trial basis.

Dayoub is yet to get the clearance from the his country’s football federation to play in India.

East Bengal went out early form both the season opener IFA shield and the Durand. While they lost to cadets of the Tata Football Acadmey in the Shield, Lajong shocked the fancied club in Durand.
