New York- With Game 6, the World series is over and Yankees are once again the champions. The last game pitted the Yankees against the Phillies for the umpteenth time, which ended with the Yankees winning with a score-card of 7-3. The Yankees have done it yet again and have captured their 27th title.
The game saw Hideki Matsui, who gave chase to a world record and drove six runs in one game. He did not break the record but tied with it. The NY hitter gave a two-run homer, two-run double, and a two-run single in the fist three shots he took. The record that he tied with belongs to the Yankees second baseman- Bobby Richardson, which was made in the year 1960 against Pittsburgh in the 3rd game. Matsui was ultimately made the MVP or the Most Valuable Player, which is a title to be reckoned with.
Reggie Jackson’s (who played for the Yankees) 1977 record of making 5 home runs in one world series was tied by Chase Utley, who is the second baseman of the Phillies.
The main turning point of the game came when Yankees‘ Pedro Martinez got his chance to get out of a bases-loaded jam as Alex Rodriguez came out on strike for the 2nd out. He was not let off by Matsui. This happened when the Phillies were trailing behind with 0-2.
In a single World series, the Phillies have 3 individual multi-homer game making them the second team to do so. The first team was the Yanks with Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri and Babe Ruth, when they played against the Chicago cubs. It can be well said that the Yankees-Phillies Game 6 proved to be thrilling for the fans of both sides.
