Tight security in Mohali for Twenty20 international

MOHALI - The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here is all set to host the second Twenty20 international match between India and Sri Lanka amidst tight security here Saturday.

Over 1,600 cops, who have been called from various districts of Punjab, will be deployed at the PCA to ensure the smooth conduct of this match.

District police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told IANS: “Our main priority is to ensure foolproof security of players, organisers and thousands of spectators who will come here to witness the match. At the same time, we will make sure that our security arrangements would not pose any kind of problem for the common man.”

“Our senior level officials will be on duty both inside and outside the stadium to keep an eye on any anti-social element. Besides, CCTV cameras have been installed at all the sensitive locations of the PCA stadium,” stated Bhullar.

Punjab police has installed 22 police check-posts around the stadium and around half-a-dozen quick reaction teams will be deployed at the stadium.

Spectators coming to PCA stadium will be frisked at four points before gaining entry inside the stadium

The PCA stadium, with a seating capacity of over 35,000 spectators, is one of the premier cricket stadiums of the world. PCA officials are expecting full stands Saturday.

“There is great enthusiasm among people for this match. Almost all the tickets have been sold and we are expecting a jam-packed stadium tomorrow. We are all geared up to successfully host this match,” said a PCA spokesperson.

Sri Lanka won the first Twenty20 at Nagpur Wednesday by 29 runs.
