Martin beats Howard to earn Olympic curling berth
EDMONTON, Alberta — Kevin Martin beat Glenn Howard 7-3 on Sunday in the final of the Canadian curling trials.
Martin, who started the game with hammer, took control early and was leading 5-1 after five ends. He coasted from there, earning the chance to represent Canada at the Vancouver Olympics.
The 43-year-old Martin won the silver medal at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City. That was the last time he represented Canada in the Olympics.
Howard, who also lost to Martin in the round-robin portion of the tournament, wasn’t able to find his game and struggled throughout.
Martin will join Cheryl Bernard in Vancouver. Bernard beat Shannon Kleibrink in the women’s final.
