No. 9 Georgia beats Bama for 14-0 start

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Ashley Houts scored 14 points to help No. 9 Georgia tie a school record with a 14-0 start after a 52-44 victory over Alabama on Sunday.

Porsha Phillips had a career-high 17 rebounds, Angel Robinson had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Meredith Mitchell added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs in the SEC opener for both teams.

The Lady Bulldogs have won 16 straight against the Crimson Tide (8-6).

Georgia matched the record established by the 1998-99 team that reached the Final Four.

Varisia Raffington scored 13 points and Tierney Jenkins had 10 points for the Tide. Dedrea Magee had seven assists and six rebounds for Alabama.

Georgia trailed by 10 at the half, but opened the second half by scoring the first 15 points to take a 35-30 lead. Robinson and Mitchell each had four points during the run, and Houts three points to lead the comeback.
