Lambiel says he can win Olympic skating gold
LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Swiss figure skater Stephane Lambiel says he can win an Olympic gold medal after missing a season.
Lambiel says it’s “an unbelievable dream” but a realistic objective to win the men’s individual gold in Vancouver next month.
The 24-year-old skater, who was out with a groin injury, will test his Olympic readiness next week at the European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.
Lambiel expects to compete there against Evgeni Plushenko for the first time since the Russian beat him at the 2006 Turin Olympics.
Plushenko also is making a comeback after a three-year break.
Lambiel says he is not interested in their rivalry — only in impressing the judges with his new free program set to music from the opera La Traviata.
