US selects 216 athletes to Vancouver Olympic team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The U.S. Olympic Committee has announced 216 athletes for the Vancouver Games, including two who have been selected to five straight teams.
Nordic combined skier Todd Lodwick and luge athlete Mark Grimmette were chosen for their fifth straight team when the list was made official early Tuesday. Teams can make changes only in case of injuries.
Another five-time Olympian is Casey Puckett, who made the 1992, 1994, 1998 and 2002 teams as an Alpine skier. He is recovering from a shoulder injury, but is expected to compete on the freestyle team in skicross.
There are 123 men and 93 women on the U.S. team, many of them in pre-Olympic training camps this week. The Vancouver Olympics begin on Feb. 12.
