LONDON - England cricket’s latest international call-up - British Asian all-rounder Ajmal Shahzad - is the cynosure of all eyes involved with the sport.

He is being seen as a cross between the lightning fast reverse-swing of Waqar Younis and the bombastic batting of Andrew Flintoff.

Shahzad will join the England squad for the first time in upcoming showdowns with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

According to The Sun, he is an aggressive batsman and fast bowler. The 24-year-old has been tipped for the top since becoming the first Yorkshire-born Asian to play for the county in 2004.

Injuries held Shahzad back before he earned a place on England’s winter performance programme in South Africa.

And should he feature in the two Twenty20s against Pakistan, or on the tour of Bangladesh, Shahzad has promised to show off that fiery brand of cricket.

He said: “As a player I’d say I’m flamboyant. I’m a bubbly guy and I like to show that when I play. When I’m bowling I like to be really aggressive and in the batsman’s face. I want to bowl quick balls that hit them and then have a little chirp at them.”

Shahzad is also supporting the Yorkshire Bank Community Cricket Talent Programme. The programme aims to uncover up to 150 talented junior players by 2012. (ANI)
