GWALIOR / MUMBAI - Cricket fans in India rejoiced after cricketer Sachin Tendulkar created history by scoring the first double century in one-day internationals against South Africa in the second one day international at Gwalior on Wednesday.

People hailed Tendulkar’s extraordinary feat as he raised his bat to mark the completion of 200 runs.

“Sachin Tendulkar created a history in Gwalior whose name will be written in the books of international cricket for scoring unbeaten 200 runs. God knows who will next beat this score in coming many years,” said Anil Punyali, a Gwalior resident.

“It is great moment and is a good lesson for the youngsters. At the age of 36 to score even 50, people clap for it, but to score 200 and make a world record, and that to starting and carrying the game till the game was over. It is really great and I don’t think anybody will be able to do that,” said Madhav V Gothoskar, former Test umpire from Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Tendulkar said he was indebted to his fans since they have been with him through thick and thin and also when he had a lean patch.

“I do not know how to react to this but I would like to dedicate this double hundred to all the people of India who stood with me behind me for the last 20 years and supported me no matter what, there have been ups and downs, but they stood behind me, I really appreciate this support and this hundred is for all the people of India,” he added.

“I am enjoying my cricket; I have always played the way I felt is the right way to play and always done what I felt was good for the team. There have been few decisions, which I have made as a batsman, but I think as I long as I, in my heart I know that whatever I am thinking is right for the team t that moment. I am going ahead that,” opined Tendulkar. (ANI)
