Lidge pleased with 1st outing against live batters
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Philadelphia Phillies closer Brad Lidge gave up three hits and a run in an inning of work Thursday, and the right-hander was very encouraged with the results of his first action against live batters this spring.
Lidge is recovering from offseason surgery on his right knee and elbow. While it’s unlikely he’ll be ready to go on Opening Day, he has targeted the Houston series beginning April 9 or the Phillies’ home opener against Washington on April 12.
Lidge is aiming to pitch every other day and believes he’ll need about 10 outings to be ready for the season.
Ryan Madson will handle the closer responsibilities until Lidge returns.
