Following a storm of controversy surrounding IPL chairman Lalit Modi, The IPL committee has decided to disassociate Modi from IPL. Baroda Cricket Association President Chirayu Amin has now been appointed the interim Chairman of Indian Premier League, replacing scandalous Modi.
Chirayu Amin was chosen for the IPL hot seat, after a one and half hour meeting that was conducted by IPL Governing Council.
At a press conference, BCCI president Shashank Manohar cited five reasons for which Modi has been charged. Shady initial bids of Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, a suspect broadcast deal with Sony, bid rigging of two new franchises this year and his behavioral pattern are the main allegations made against Lalit Modi. He also announced the suspension of Modi.
Modi had at first refused to attend the governing council meeting, calling it illegal and unauthorized as only he, as IPL chairman, had the powers to convene the council.
He had also accused the members of the BCCI of attempting to pressure him into resigning. However, Modi dramatically turnaround yesterday. He not only attended the meeting, but also firmly opted for holding his position. This compelled BCCI to issue the suspension and show-cause notice. A time span of 15 days have been given to the former chairman of IPL to respond to the show-cause notice.
