Uruguay leads South Africa 1-0 after 75 minutes
PRETORIA, South Africa — Uruguay is still pushing after 75 minutes of its World Cup match against South Africa to add to Diego Forlan’s long-range goal, but is also having to deal with an increasing number of attacks from the host nation.
Forlan’s shot from 25 yards clipped South Africa defender Aaron Mokoena before dipping over goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and under the crossbar in the 24th minute to give Uruguay a 1-0 lead at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday.
Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani was unable to steer home a low cross after halftime. Teammate Diego Lugano missed an open header soon after.
South Africa’s Kagisho Dikgacoi will miss the final group game against France after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament.
