Nigeria leads Greece 1-0 after 30 minutes
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — Kalu Uche scored to give Nigeria a 1-0 lead against Greece through 30 minutes of their Group B match at the World Cup.
The Nigeria midfielder curled in a free kick in the 16th minute from 35 yards after Sokratis Papastathopoulos took down Nigeria’s Peter Odemwingie to give the Super Eagles the free kick. Papastathopoulos received a yellow card for the hard tackle.
Nigeria continued to press forward after the goal, while Greece struggled to gain any rhythm.
Neither team can afford to lose Thursday’s match after dropping World Cup openers. The Nigerians lost to Argentina 1-0, while the Greeks fell to South Korea 2-0.
