French referee Lannoy gets Brazil-Ivory Coast

JOHANNESBURG — French referee Stephane Lannoy has been appointed to oversee Sunday’s Brazil-Ivory Coast match at the World Cup.

Lannoy, who took charge of the earlier Netherlands-Denmark match, was chosen Friday to the key match in which Brazil could secure a place in the knockout stages, while Ivory Coast searches for a win after an opening draw.

The other Group G match between Portugal and North Korea will be refereed by Chile’s Pablo Pozo, who has recovered from an ankle sprain that prevented him taking charge of the Algeria-Slovenia match to which he was initially appointed.

The man who filled in for that match, Spain’s Carlos Batres, was appointed to take charge of Italy-New Zealand.

In other appointments, Eddy Maillet of the Seychelles will officiate Slovakia-Paraguay, Saudi Arabia’s Khalil Al Ghamdi was put in charge of Chile-Switzerland, and Yuichi Nishimura of Japan will be the referee for Spain-Honduras.
