Australia leads Ghana in Group D match
RUSTENBURG, South Africa — Brett Holman gave Australia a 1-0 lead through 15 minutes of its World Cup Group D match against Ghana at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.
Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson bobbled a free kick from Mark Bresciano and Holman, playing his first game in the tournament, followed in to score.
Australia had an earlier complaint or a penalty turned down when Harry Kewell went down in the penalty area at three minutes after tangling with defender Lee Addy. Referee Roberto Rosetti waved away Australia’s appeals.
Kewell is leading the Australian attack as one of four changes to the team beaten 4-0 by Germany. Ghana made two changes after defenders John Mensah and Isaac Vorsath were ruled out injured.
