Chile, Switzerland scoreless after 60 minutes
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Chile pressed hard for a goal against 10-man Switzerland, but the match remained 0-0 after 60 minutes of Monday’s Group H match at the World Cup.
Chile is up against a resolute Swiss defense, which has gone nearly 550 minutes since yielding a goal in the World Cup.
Swiss midfielder Valon Behrami was sent off in the 31st minute for elbowing Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal.
Chile thought it had taken the lead in the 49th minute, but Alexis Sanchez’s goal was disallowed for offside.
Sanchez also came close in the 55th minute, but his break through the penalty area was thwarted by Swiss goalkeeper Diego Benaglio.
Even before the ejection, the South Americans had the best chances.
Both teams won their first matches.
