Chile, Switzerland 0-0 after 30 minutes
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Chile had the best early chances against Switzerland but the teams were tied 0-0 after 30 minutes of Monday’s Group H match at the World Cup.
Chile forward Alexis Sanchez shot high in the fifth minute, and Arturo Vidal’s strike in the 10th was parried by Swiss goalkeeper Diego Benaglio, who also saved Carlos Carmona’s shot on the rebound.
Switzerland has yet to have a dangerous scoring chance.
Swiss midfielder Valon Behrami was sent off late in the half. Chile striker Humberto Suazo, who missed the first match against Honduras with a left thigh injury, was cautioned in the second minute.
Both teams won their first matches.
The 48,000-capacity Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium was about two-thirds full at kickoff.
