Switzerland, Honduras 0-0 at halftime
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — Switzerland and Honduras are 0-0 at halftime in their World Cup Group H match Friday.
The Swiss created the best opening in the 17th minute when Tranquillo Barnetta crossed for Eren Derdiyok, but he headed wide from 6 yards.
Derdiyok then provided a cross for Blaise Nkufo 2 minutes before halftime, but Nkufo could only chest the ball tamely across the goal.
Honduras threatened through right wing Edgar Alvarez, who twice got behind Switzerland’s defense, but couldn’t find a teammate with his crosses.
Switzerland captain Gokhan Inler pulled an early left-footed shot wide after creating space for himself on the edge of the penalty area.
