Ghana leads US 1-0 after 60 minutes
RUSTENBURG, South Africa — Kevin-Prince Boateng’s low strike in the 5th minute gave Ghana a 1-0 lead over the United States after 60 minutes in their World Cup second-round match.
U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard was beaten at the near post by Boateng’s shot from the edge of the penalty area. The Ghana midfielder raced through unchallenged from the halfway line, where Ricardo Clark lost possession.
Robbie Findley squandered a chance to level in the 35th with a shot blocked by goalkeeper Richard Kingson’s outstretched left leg.
Findley was taken off at halftime and substitute Benny Feilhaber was denied a goal with his first touch by Kingson.
The winner will meet Uruguay on Friday.
