San Francisco (GaeaTimes.com) Spain created history at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg in the world cup final 2010. Both Spain and Netherland had not won the title before and it was the time to welcome a new champion this year and Spain won the cup among much cheer.
The stage was all set for an extraordinary ending of an extraordinary tournament but the world cup final was filled with hard fouls and cynical dives. Netherlands had played in the final twice before in 1974 and 1978 but were unlucky both time and this time too, the Dutch stars Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder failed to turn the result into their favor.
It was Netherland’s third appearance in the finals of the FIFA World Cup and this time they are just looked determined enough to bag the title for the very first time. But the country of football legends like Johan Cruyff, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, were playing dirty football.
On the other hand Spain was appearing in the world cup final for very first time. Though Spain has a splendid history in club football but they never succeeded as a team in any world class tournament before the Euro championship in 2008. This time also they started with a loss in their first match against Switzerland in the group stage but then they made a wonderful comeback and reached the final beating The Germans in semifinal almost hands down. Octopus Paul forecast that Spain is going to win the cup this time was met accordingly.

I have never seen a game won — or lost — by more deserving teams. Shame on Holland, and shame on FIFA for putting up with this shocking performance by a referee. FIFA needs to apologize not only to some of its losing teams for lousy calls, but to the most graceful, courageous winning team we have seen in years. |
