Wozniacki, Stakhovsky win titles in New Haven
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky won his second tournament of the year Saturday, beating Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Pilot Pen.
The hard-serving Istomin, playing in his first ATP final, went ahead early with a break in the second game of the first set.
But that would be one of just three breaks in the match, and Stakhovsky got the other two, the final one coming in the fifth game of the final set.
Stakhovsky is unbeaten in four ATP finals, including a win in Hertogenbosch this year.
Earlier, U.S. Open top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark won her third consecutive Pilot Pen title with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Russian Nadia Petrova.
It was her second win this week after taking the title in Montreal on Monday.
