Louisiana Tech holds off Grambling State 20-6

SHREVEPORT, La. — Myke Compton rushed for two first-half touchdowns and Louisiana Tech beat Grambling State 20-6 in both teams’ opener on Saturday night in the inaugural Port City Classic.

The Bulldogs did enough offensively to survive a scare from the heavy-underdog Tigers in the first meeting between the schools located three miles apart. Tech had drives of 69 and 80 yards in the first 17 minutes, both ending in 2-yard scoring runs by Compton.

Tech’s other scoring came on Matt Nelson field goals of 39 and 45 yards.

Grambling State had five possessions in Louisiana Tech territory in the final 2 1/2 quarters but scored only on Zoltan Riazzo’s 34-yard field goal on its first second-half possession. Riazzo also kicked a 39-yarder on the Tigers’ first drive.

Tech held Grambling to 202 yards before a Tigers’ drive in the last minute that ended in an interception.
