NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com) — Samantha Stosur safely paved her way into the quarterfinals of US Open with her 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7/2) victory against Elena Dementieva.

The battle lasted two hours and 38 minutes, ending at 1:36 in the morning.

When asked about her experience about the match she said,

That’s definitely one of the most exciting matches I’ve ever played. I just dug deep and never gave up and made her work for it and I was able to pull it out. It’s good to make history I guess.

Stosur did create history in a way. She now holds the title of being the first Aussie woman in the last eight at the US Open since Wendy Turnbull in 1986.

Samantha Jane Stosur was born on 30 March 1984 and is a native of Brisbane, Queensland. She is a professional tennis player from Australia with Polish heritage. Her first big venture set off as she went away overseas, at the age of 13, competing in the World Youth Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia. Then on she has been playing some serious Tennis. She topped the charts on February 2006 and is now at Rank 5.

Samantha will now have to take on, defending US Open champion Kim Clijsters for a semifinal berth. Let’s see who gets through to be the next big thing in the world of Tennis.
