Riddle passes Elon over Shaw 55-26
ELON, N.C. — Scott Riddle passed for three touchdowns as Elon scored touchdowns on six of seven first-half possessions and went on to defeat Shaw 55-26 on Saturday night.
Riddle became the Southern Conference’s all-time passing leader as he completed 21 of 24 passes for 244 yards. With 10,588 career passing yards, Riddle surpassed the 10,392 yards of Armanti Edwards (Appalachian State, 2006-09).
Elon (1-1) took a 42-13 halftime lead as Riddle threw touchdown passes of 4 yards to Scott Eastman, and 8 and 41 yards to Aaron Mellette.
Brandon Newsome, who had 77 yards on 14 carries, scored on a pair of 4-yard runs as the Phoenix had 526 yards total offense and bounced back from a season-opening loss to Duke. A.J. Harris also scored for Elon on a 32-yard run.
Kevin Atkins rushed for one touchdown and passed for one for Shaw (1-1).
