Florida A&M beat Delaware State 17-14
DOVER, Del. — Martin Ukpai threw two touchdown passes, including a 50-yard passing score to put Florida A&M ahead for good in a 17-14 win over Delaware State on Saturday night.
Delaware St. pulled ahead 14-10 after a 1-yard touchdown run by Jaashawn Jones with 12:24 left in the third quarter. Hornets quarterback Anthony Glaud ran to convert the two-point conversion.
But Ukpai, who completed 12 of 27 passes for 161 yards, connected with Brian Tymes on a 50-yard touchdown pass about a minute later. The Rattlers (2-0, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Conference) held Delaware State (1-1, 0-1) scoreless the rest of the way.
Florida A&M struggled against the Hornets’ stifling defense with just 191 yards of total offense. But the Rattlers were still able to claim a 10-6 lead at halftime after Antonio Lawrence’s touchdown catch and Trevor Scott’s 26-yard field goal.
