Canfora’s 5 TDs carry Bryant past Merrimack 46-29
SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Mike Canfora scored five touchdowns, three on runs and two on passes from Mike Croce, in Bryant’s 46-29 victory over Merrimack on Saturday.
The senior running back carried 24 times for 111 yards and caught four passes for 33 yards. Jordan Brown rushed for 182 yards on 22 carries for the Bulldogs (3-0).
Four of Canfora’s touchdowns came in the first half, helping Bryant build a 27-6 lead midway through the second quarter over the Division II Warriors (0-2).
James Suozzo’s second touchdown pass of the half and his 3-yard scoring run brought Merrimack back within 27-21 at halftime.
Croce’s 10-yard pass to Matt Tracey gave the Bulldogs a 33-21 lead. On their next possession, Canfora ran 4 yards for his final touchdown, but Merrimack’s Artis Holt intercepted the 2-point conversion attempt and ran it back all the way to make it 39-23.
