Lamar rallies to beat SE Louisiana 29-28
HAMMOND, La. — J.J. Hayes caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Andre Bevil with 1:52 left and Lamar overcame a 20-point deficit to beat Southeastern Louisiana 29-28 on Saturday night.
The Cardinals (2-1) trailed 28-8 with 11:45 remaining in the third quarter after a 1-yard run by Zeke Jones, who also scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards in the first half.
But Lamar answered with 21 straight points. Bevil, who threw for 417 yards, threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Hayes, connected with Marcus Jackson for a 2-yard score and threw the game-winning score to Hayes.
Bevil, who finished with two interceptions, also had a 21-yard touchdown pass to Hayes in the first quarter for Lamar. Hayes caught six passes for 87 yards, while Josh Powdrill had 87 yards on seven catches.
Brian Young threw for 301 yards, one touchdown and one interception for Southeastern Louisiana (1-2).
