Last-second TD gives UAB a 34-33 win over Troy
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jackie Williams hauled in a 44-yard touchdown on the final play, giving Alabama-Birmingham a 34-33 comeback victory over Troy on Saturday.
Williams made a leaping catch at the goal line from backup quarterback Bryan Ellis. The Hail Mary touchdown capped a 99-yard drive that began with 1:09 remaining and UAB out of timeouts.
The Blazers (1-2) trailed 23-0 with 6:35 left in the first half and were still behind 33-20 with nine minutes to play. Ellis hit Williams with a 36-yard touchdown pass to close the gap to 33-27 with 8:34 remaining.
Corey Robinson threw for 404 yards and two touchdowns and DuJuan Harris rushed for two scores as the Trojans (1-2) scored on four of their first five possessions.
UAB squandered several scoring opportunities in the first half, committing three turnovers in Troy’s territory and turning the ball over once on downs.
