Missouri DE Smith out with broken bone in leg
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri coach Gary Pinkel says star defensive end Aldon Smith will miss the Tigers’ game Saturday against Miami of Ohio due to a broken bone in his leg.
Pinkel said Monday that Smith broke a non-weight bearing bone in his right leg on the final series of Saturday’s win over San Diego State. Smith had a soft cast at the team’s media session and joked that he’d play this week, but Pinkel said he was hopeful of having Smith back in the lineup for the Big 12 opener at home against Colorado on Oct. 9.
If that’s the case, Smith would miss only one game because the Tigers have an open weekend before beginning conference play.
Smith set a school record with 11½ sacks last season as a freshman, enough to finish tied for ninth in the country. He leads the team with three sacks so far this season.
