Delaware beats Richmond on the road 34-13

RICHMOND, Va. — Andrew Pierce rushed for 114 yards and scored three touchdowns as Delaware defeated Richmond 34-13 on Saturday in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams.

Delaware (4-0, 1-0) took a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter after a 94-yard scoring drive ended with a 7-yard touchdown run by Trevor Sasek and a blocked extra point.

A 2-yard touchdown run by Pierce gave the Fightin’ Blue Hens a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter, but an 11-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Corp to Kevin Finney just before halftime pulled the Spiders (1-2, 0-1) to within seven points after a missed extra point from Wil Kamin.

Richmond tied the score at 13-13 following a 3-yard touchdown run from Tyler Kirchoff with 6:18 left in the third quarter, but Delaware broke it open with rushing scores of 13 and 8 yards by Pierce and a 40-yard touchdown run by David Hayes.
