NEW DELHI - African diplomats Monday asked the Commonwealth Games organising committee to make more efforts to clean up the accommodation for athletes.

The diplomats from the African group of Commonwealth nations had visited the Village for the second consecutively day Monday evening in order to ensure that the flats have been made habitable.

“We have no quarrel with anything except for the rooms, which have to be made habitable. They still need to be cleaned thoroughly,” said a senior African diplomat.

While some of the teams have arrived and are staying in the Village, not all the residential towers have been cleaned up to satisfaction.

“Our team is arriving on Wednesday. The deal is that if the rooms are still not ready, then they will be checking into Ashok hotel,” said another diplomat.

The envoys will be making a “final” visit Tuesday. “It is a do-or-die situation,” he said.
