Jaguars release Coe, Wilford, re-sign Alexander
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars revamping their beleaguered secondary.
The Jaguars released defensive back Michael Coe on Monday, a day after Coe got beat for a 61-yard touchdown against Philadelphia, and re-signed safety Gerald Alexander.
Jacksonville released Alexander, who started 10 games in 2009, in final cuts. But with Anthony Smith (turf toe) sidelined, safeties Sean Considine and Courtney Greene struggled in lopsided losses against San Diego and the Eagles.
The Jaguars also released tight end Ernest Wilford and waived quarterback Brett Ratliff from the practice squad.
Jacksonville is expected to sign a quarterback, possibly former St. Louis backup Keith Null. A sixth-round draft pick in 2009, Null started four games last season.
