George Blanda Passes Away

ALAMEDA (GaeaTimes.com)- The former collegiate and Professional Football quarterback and place-kicker George Blanda breathed his last yesterday, the Oakland Raiders announced the news to the media. He was 83. Oakland Raiders released a statement yesterday where it was maintained that they are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of “great” George Blanda.

The statement released by the Oakland Raiders did not provide any details about George Blanda’s cause of death. The veteran player played a record 26 seasons of professional football and he once won five consecutive games for the Oakland Riders almost single handedly. The Pro Football Hall of Fame said that George Blanda died after suffering a brief illness. Oakland Raiders’ statement also read that George Blanda was a “close personal friend of” Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. Previously the owner Al Davis said that George Blanda was the “greatest” clutch player that the game of pro football has ever known. The Oakland Raiders team expressed their condolence by saying that their heart goes to his wife Betty and his family and they grieve with them for their great friend.

Steve Perry, executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame expressed his condolence by saying that George Blanda was a seemingly ageless wonder and he inspired legions of fans over his 26 years old career. Steve Perry also said that George Blanda will be greatly missed by everyone. George Blanda scored 2,002 points, a National Football League record at the time, and passed for 26,920 yards and 236 touchdowns while playing in parts of four decades. The sudden demise of George Blanda has brought in a wave of sorrow to the football fraternity. The family of the player has not yet announced anything about the funeral services.
