NEW DELHI - As part of a unique initiative, the Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) will rope in around 1,500 volunteers to assist in traffic management during the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games in the city.
Over 700 Delhiites were inducted in a event held at the Maruti Training Centre in east Delhi near the Games Village.
Special Commissioner of Police Ajay Chadha said: Managing traffic during the Games will be a very big challenge. We have reached out to the citizens by opening our accounts on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Chadha hopes the programme will be a success and would bring Delhiites closer to their traffic police.
Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 countries and territories are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games — India’s biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games.
