MOHALI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The first test between India and Australia is underway and the cricket fans already have one controversy to talk about. Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Australian captain Ricky Ponting looked determined to make a mark early on in the series. Scoring a well paced 71, the captain did make a mark but also showed the trailer of the drama that is to follow this season.

In spite Simon Katich being dismissed in the 5th over, the Australian innings was steadied by Shane Watson and Ricky Ponting. India is playing 4 bowlers but Ishant Sharma struggled to find form early on and later walked out due to some knee problems. Harbhajan Singh who is known for his fantastic record against the Australian side, was also seen without much rhythm. The pick of the bowlers so far has been Pragyan Ojha who has maintained a relentless line and length and also extracted some significant turn from the track.

The highlight of the day has been the dismissal of Ricky Ponting who was adjudged run out by the third umpire. While returning to the pavilion the Australian captain, and former Knight Rider, turned around for an exchange of words with Indian veteran Zaheer Khan who seemed to have passed a cheeky comment to spite Ricky Ponting. Though the matter was resolved without much stir, it is expected that the series will have many such encounters in the days come. With the Australians going into the second day with a 220+ score and a set batsman, who is past his century (Shane Watson), the contest looks evenly poised.
