Kirchoff, Richmond dominate Coastal Carolina 41-19
RICHMOND, Va. — Tyler Kirchoff rushed for four touchdowns and Richmond had three straight fourth-quarter interceptions to defeat Coastal Carolina 41-19 on Saturday.
Kirchoff, who had 126 yards on 24 carries, scored on runs of 14 and 4 yards in the first quarter, then added a 12-yarder with 13:54 left in the first half to put the Spiders (2-2) ahead 20-0.
The Chanticleers (1-4) scored on Eric O’Neal’s 1-yard run, but Richmond pulled away 27-7 on a 47-yard pass from Aaron Corp to Ben Edwards.
Coastal Carolina answered with a 48-yard TD from Zach MacDowall to Brandon Whitley and a 13-yard scoring pass from Jeremy Height to Whitley to lead 27-19 with 13:52 left.
On third-and-goal at the 2, Patrick Weldon intercepted MacDowall in the end zone with 7:42 to go.
A Justin Rogers pick set up Kirchoff’s 27-yard TD, then Rogers scored on a 34-yard interception return.
